Calderdale Way Relay

Todmorden Harriers fielded four teams at the Calderdale Way Relay on Sunday, with the men’s team improving on their performance of the previous year to finish in third place.

The race follows the 50 mile route of the Calderdale Way, with an additional side loop to pass by Stoodley Pike, and totals over 12,000 feet of climbing. The distance is split into 6 legs which are each run by a pair of runners within teams of 12.

Sale Harriers posted a winning aggregate time of 6:15:46, with Clayton le Moors in second with a time of 6:28:03.

Todmorden’s ‘A’ team were started off by Paul Hobbs and Steve Pullan, before Dwane Dixon and Andrew Wrench set the fastest leg time of the day for the second leg from Cragg Vale to Todmorden to move the club into 4th place.

Trevor Davis and Rob Gray kept the club in contention on the mainly uphill leg 3 to Blackshawhead. Craig Stansfield and John Lloyd then reduced the deficit to Clayton to just over 2 minutes as they moved into third place.

Andy McFie and Dan Taylor, on leg 5, reduced the deficit to under a minute and handed over to Robin Tuddenham and Nick Barber for the final leg, who kept the pressure up for a well earned third place, with a total time of 6:29:02.

The men’s ‘B’ team finished in 21st place, with a strong final leg by Dave Collins and Michael Harper gaining them three places, and a total time of 7:30:13.

The ladies finished the day as 6th placed ladies team with recent recruits Nerys Rolinson and Maddie Rolinson-Lord gaining several places on leg 3, before relay team captain Elise Milnes and Issy Pollard brought the team home in 8:53:59.

The mixed ‘All Stars’ team finished with a time of 9:17:47 for 62nd position, after Jonothan Wright and Mick Craven had set them off to a fine start on leg 1, handing over a few seconds ahead of the ladies team.
