Midgley Moor Fell Race | Wilmslow Half Marathon

34 Todmorden Harriers made up more than a third of the runners in Calder Valley’s Midgley Moor Fell Race. Lucy Burnett, Kath Brierley and Jane Leonard took the ladies team prize with Tod men Ivan Gee, Ben Crowther and Paul Brannigan finishing second to Calder Valley.

Ivan Gee in his post-injury comeback race was inspirational in being first veteran home. The V70 prize went to the current English fell champion Richard Blakeley and Kath Brierley completed a trio of wins taking the Ladies V50 prize.

The unmarked course caused problems for many runners and wrong detours were the order of the day.

Pacemakers are common in track racing, but special mention must go to Mel Blackhurst competing for the first time since having her very own pacemaker fitted. Recent recruits John Allan and Kirsty Patten had excellent runs with John finishing 23rd and Kirsty 11th lady. At the other end of the scale it was great to see club stalwarts Neil Hodgkinson and Darren Graham return to racing after lengthy lay-offs.

Husband and wife Jon and Bev Wright raced in the extremely popular Wilmslow Half Marathon. Jon finished 36th of 4000 runners with Bev in 1786th.

Wilmslow Half Marathon | Oldham parkrun

Many Todmorden Harriers were left at a loose end at the weekend, with most races cancelled including the English Championship fell race at Edale.

A pair of Harriers were in attendance at the weekly parkrun in Oldham. Wind had blown most of the snow away, leaving only a couple of inches of snow on the course to contend with. Richard Butterwick finished 6th and Myra Wells was 30th across the line.

On Sunday a quartet of Todmorden Harriers left the snow completely behind as they joined almost 4000 runners at the Wilmslow Half Marathon.

Amongst a high quality field, and with strong cold winds to contend with all four recorded excellent times.

Nick Barber and John Seeby both set personal best times for the 13.1 mile distance, finishing in 30th and 35th positions.

Robin Tuddenham was a couple of minutes further back in 50th position, whilst Alistair Rhodes Dawson finished in 224th place.
Todmorden results: 30 Nick Barber 1:16:08; 35 John Seeby 1:16:20; 50 Robin Tuddenham 1:18:52; 224 Alastair Rhodes-Dawson 1:27:50.

Thirsk 10 | Wilmslow Half | Rivock Edge | Edale Skyline

Todmorden Harriers were in peak form with three personal bests recorded at the Thirsk 10 mile road race in North Yorkshire.

The race attracted a strong field of over 500 runners, and John Lloyd put in an excellent performance for 12th place and a new best time of 57:38.

Sarah Glyde was the first Todmorden lady in 200th place, also recording a new personal best for the distance of 1:12:40.

Lucy Hobbs was next over the line in 1:17:24, just ahead of Mel Robertson who stopped the clock at 1:18:23 for another personal best.

Nigel Hanson completed the Todmorden entry with a time of 1:26:08.

A pair of Harriers were in Wilmslow for the English Half Marathon Championships, with Robin Tuddenham recording 1:16:38 for 51st place out of over 4000 entrants.

Lauren Jeska finished 5th lady, and first v35, with a time of 1:19:32

Mick Craven was the lone Harrier at the Rivock Edge Fell Race, finishing the 6.5mile course in 41st place in 1:07:08.

Fiona Armer was also a sole Todmorden runner, this time at the Edale Skyline Fell Race where she recorded 5 hours 15 minutes for the tough 21 mile route.
